Spain

Spain has both an Atlantic and Mediterranean coast. Since EU membership in 1986, there has been an increasing devolution of power to the regions. The Spanish housing boom is over and prices in many areas of the country fell during 2007, affecting the wider economy.

Economic Strengths

Well qualified, low cost labour force. Inflation expected to ease during 2008.

Economic Weaknesses

Slowing real estate sector, and relatively high unemployment rate & ageing population. Limited progress in structural reform implementation.
